The 2023 Antony Welton Fellowship offers one rangatahi in the Waihōpai (Invercargill) or Motupōhue (Bluff) areas a $10,000 Fellowship to support them to work towards their vision for the future.
Te Rourou, One Aotearoa Foundation is on the lookout for its next Antony Welton Fellow for 2023.
This offers one rangatahi in the Waihōpai (Invercargill) or Motupōhue (Bluff) areas a $10,000 Fellowship to support them to work towards their vision for the future.
The 2023 Antony Welton Fellowship will be awarded to a young person who can describe a goal they want to work towards for the 12-month period, as well as a longer-term vision for themselves and their community.
This vision must be centred on positive change for other young people, and work towards the Foundation’s goal of an equitable Aotearoa for all young people.
“Te Rourou is aiming to lower a few of the barriers through this fellowship. I am excited to see what rangatahi achieve when they are provided support shoulder to shoulder,” Welton said.
“The previous two winners have been inspirational, and I look forward to supporting our 2023 recipient.”
After two rounds of the Fellowship, Te Rourou has reviewed the process and narrowed its focus for 2023. This year, the fellowship will aim to support young people whose needs have not been, or are not being, met by the education system, who have exited secondary education early, or are facing challenges in staying engaged with education.
This fellowship, set up with the generous support of One New Zealand and its CEO Jason Paris, was established to recognise the contributions made to rangatahi by former Te Rourou Chair Antony Welton, who stepped down from the role in 2021. Antony has also offered to provide continued mentoring and support for the successful applicant.
Antony Welton Fellowship applications opened on Thursday and close at 5pm on Thursday 12 October 2023.
The recipient will be notified and announced in November.
