Alex Crosbie extends lead in South Island Championship
The Year 12 student at Southland Boys High Schoo, took a 9-point lead into the round and extended it to a 65-point margin.

Southland driver, Alex Crosbie, has extended his lead in the South Island F1600 Championship after the fourth round of the championship took place at Timaru International Motor Raceway at Levels in Timaru on Saturday.
Crosbie, a Year 12 student at Southland Boys High School, took a 9-point lead into the round and extended it to a 65-point margin after three races at the South Canterbury circuit.
Crosbie could only qualify third fastest after failing to secure a tow in his Ray GR21 during qualifying but improved to score a second placing, just .148 of a second behind key rival Blake Knowles of Christchurch in the first race. Knowles and Crosbie were battling for the lead in the second race when Knowles struck engine problems and Alex went on to win the second and third race of the round.
Crosbie also has a 99-point lead in the New Zealand Formula Ford Championship meaning that he will head to the penultimate round of both championships at his home circuit, Teretonga Park in Invercargill, in two weeks’ time (18/19 March) at the top of the point standings.
