Australia’s iconic Draculas show opens in Invercargill
"It’s a live spectacle of sexy seduction, silliness and bodily skill, with feathers, flirting, dancing, singing and humour."
Australia’s iconic vaudevillian variety show Draculas has opened in Invercargill with the first of four shows at the Civic Theatre preformed on Thursday night.
Draculas is touring New Zealand through October and into November.
Following a sold-out season in Australia Dracula’s: The Resurrection Tour is visiting Auckland, Invercargill, Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington.
The New Zealand tour will combine years of perfected performances into one blockbuster show, which they say dazzles and delights in a way only Dracula’s can.
Born in a Melbourne laneway in 1980, Dracula’s has become a Melbourne and Gold Coast icon. The sexy burlesque comedy show, brought to our shores by Newman Entertainment, has kept more than five million attendees in suspense, surprise and in stitches over the 43 years it has been running in Australia, including many visiting Kiwis.
Dracula’s are unleashing “fan favourites” on New Zealand audiences, including their most requested acts, live rock music, sultry burlesque, aerial acrobatics, jaw-to-the-floor costumes and comedy in two 40-minute acts with one intermission.
Newman Entertainment CEO Luke Newman said it’s always been a goal to take Draculas to New Zealand.
“We’ve had so many Kiwis come see Dracula’s, for years we’ve wanted to repay the favour and take a tour there.”
Newman said the Dracula’s touring show goes beyond classic entertainment.
“It’s almost impossible to sum up this show in a sentence. It has it all. It’s a live spectacle of sexy seduction, silliness and bodily skill, with feathers, flirting, dancing, singing and humour. It’s naughty, it’s fun and it’s on the nose, while still being light-hearted and uplifting. Just what the world needs right now,” he said.
