Rhuebyn Prattley has delivered yet another reminder of his ball-striking abilities with a startling 88 from just 37 balls playing for Waikoikoi in the ILT Premier League Southland club cricket competition on Saturday.
Prattley strode to the crease with his team 87 for four and departed with Waikoikoi at 210 for six.
He struck nine sixes and five fours in his blistering 37 ball stay. Waikoikoi went on to post 309 for eight from its 50 overs with Kurt Thompson chipping in with an unbeaten 49.
Amongst the carnage Marist veteran Jeremy Boyle still managed to produce the respectable figures of 10-1-34-2.
Boyle also top-scored with the bat with his 51 opening the batting but Marist was never really in the hunt as it was bowled out for 193.
Invercargill-Old Boys took another step towards the ILT Premier League finals on Saturady, although they came up against a Metro Tigers team that showed plenty of resilience.
Metro is battling for player numbers at the moment and there were fears the team might not be able to see out the remainder of the season.
However, a number of former players stepped out of retirement on Saturday, including Southland cricket stalwart Geoff Folster, to get 11 players on the field and push Invercargill-Old Boys.
Metro posted 185 batting first thanks largely to Karl McKee’s 66, with Keegan Russell and Sam Nicholson picking three wickets a piece for Invercargill-Old Boys.
Invercargill-Old Boys was struggling in reply with Benji Biswas (4 wickets) and Danny George (3 wickets), who were both steeping out of retirement, causing some damage.
However, Brendon Domigan (48) and Blake Buttar-Scurr (39) showcased their quality and eventually Invercargill-Old Boys was able to get home with two wickets to spare.
In the third ILT Premier League game played on Saturday top-of-the-table Appleby picked up yet another victory, this time against Southland Boys’ High School.
SBHS posted a handy 190 for six batting first led by opener Duncan Tait (51) with handy contributions from Gregor Rutledge (35) and Lachie Riley (34*).
However up stepped Kieran Lloyd again for Appleby who posted yet another half century as his team went about chasing down the total.
The SBHS bowlers kept pressure on Appleby throughout the chase but some handy knocks from the likes of Reid Murray (30), Connor Hart (20*), and Jacob Downing (17*) got Appleby home.
The SBHS' first XI’s focus is very much on its looming traditional interschool fixtures.
