A second cycling club has been set up in Southland.

It seems fair to label cycling a glamour sport in Southland. Few sports go close to matching cycling in terms of its high-performance success.

Its alumni include a stack load of Olympic, Commonwealth, and national success stories.

The memorabilia than lines of the walls of the SIT Velodrome in Invercargill highlights its steeped history of success.

The sport is still full of headline grabbers. Corbin Strong, Josh Burnett, Tom Sexton to name just a few current ones.

A third of New Zealand’s 2023 Junior World Championships squad - Magnus Jamieson, Marshall Erwood, and Caitlin Kelly - are from Southland.

Just this week blind cyclist Hannah Pascoe was in the United States competing in a World Cup event.

Cycling’s shop window sparkles and there is a lot to celebrate. It’s the envy of many other sports.

But… Yes, there’s a but.
