Dan Davin Foundation: Widely published writer 2023 Writer in Residence
Vivienne Plumb is an established writer who works across multiple literary genres that include poetry, long and short fiction, nonfiction, and drama.
The Dan Davin Literary Foundation is very excited to be hosting Dr Vivienne Plumb at the 2023 Writer in Residence.
Vivienne Plumb is an established writer who works across multiple literary genres that include poetry, long and short fiction, nonfiction, and drama. She has published over eighteen books. Her writing has been widely published and anthologised, including a number of different translations of her poetry, fiction, and drama.
She has taught creative writing at tertiary and secondary level, and particularly enjoys encouraging people of all ages to write creatively. She has worked in the arts in New Zealand all her life, originally training as an actor before turning her hand to writing.
Vivienne will use her time in the residency to work on a new collection of short fiction which focuses particularly on featuring different parts of New Zealand as the background to each story. Four stories have already been completed for the collection. Being in Southland will enable her to work on short fiction that spotlights this area of New Zealand.
Entries for the Dan Davin Award are also open until 28 July and Vivienne will be the judge for these three competitions. This includes 2 sections for young people and an adult short story section. We encourage local writers to submit work - the details are on our website. Vivienne will also be running a creative writing workshop and a poetry workshop on 26 August. Contact the Foundation on dandavin@xtra.co.nz to register your interest in attending.
The Foundation was pleased with the calibre of expressions of interest for this years residency and especially pleased to be able to host Vivienne in the region. The residency has been made possible through a bequest from Laurie King and the support of SIT|Te Pukenga to be able to use Yule House. The residency also includes a trip to Rakiura and Piopiotahi/Milford Sound.
