Ex-pat Southlanders to party again in capital
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for Southlanders to get together, have a yarn, eat some world-class Southland food and share a few drinks. It’s also a chance to fly the Southland flag in the capital."
The famous Southland Party is returning to Parliament in Wellington after a three-year hiatus and will be staged on Friday June 23.
Up to 220 ex-pat Southlanders living in the capital, residents from the deep south, as well as people with connections to the province further afield, will gather in Parliament’s Grand Hall.
Tickets for the event are now on sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to this year’s official charity, Hawthorndale Care Village in Invercargill.
Event organisers are pleased to announce partners supporting The Southland Party include Alliance Group, brewers Lion, NZAS, Great South, Invercargill Licensing Trust, Fonterra, Air New Zealand and the Southland Chamber of Commerce.
Fat Bastard Pies, Hokonui Moonshine, Auld Farm Distillery, The Highlanders, Rugby Southland, Southern Steel and Ngāi Tahu Seafood are also supporting the event.
The Southland Party was first established in the 1990s and re-launched in 2012 after a nine-year absence.
Southland Party organising committee chair Brian Finn says the event is a great chance to celebrate all that is good about the province.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for Southlanders to get together, have a yarn, eat some world-class Southland food and share a few drinks. It’s also a chance to fly the flag for Southland in the capital.
“It’s always a cracking night so we’re urging any Southlanders based in Wellington and elsewhere around the country to get a ticket and come along.”
Tickets are $85 each and are available at https://www.iticket.co.nz/events/2023/jun/the-southland-party.
