Former Southland Sharks player drafted into NBA
The 21-year-old’s road to the NBA included a season with the Sharks in the New Zealand National Basketball League in 2022.
Former Southland Sharks player Mojave King has been picked up in the NBA draft.
The Indiana Pacers selected King with the 47th pick in the draft.
The 47th draft pick was acquired earlier on Thursday from the LA Lakers.
The 21-year-old’s road to the NBA included a season with the Sharks in the New Zealand National Basketball League in 2022.
He joined the Sharks with big wraps and while King showed glimpses of his talent, it was a challenging season where Southland finished towards the bottom of the table.
King is Dunedin-born and is the son of Otago Nuggets legend Leonard King.
He started playing competitively at 15 with the Brisbane Capitals and eventually played in the NBA Global Academy and with the Cairns Taipans, Adelaide 36ers and Sharks.
He averaged 18.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 16 games with Southland in 2022.
