Former Southland Stag Solomon Alaimalo will make his NRL debut for the West Tigers on Saturday night.
West Tigers coach Benji Marshall has named Alaimalo on the wing for the round 8 game against the Brisbane Broncos at Campbelltown in Sydney.
The 28-year-old was signed by the Australian rugby league club late last year following a career playing rugby in New Zealand.
It included a two-season stint with the Southland Stags in 2021 and 2022 where he played 13 games in maroon, before last year heading to Christchurch where he played for Canterbury in the NPC.
For whatever reason Southland did not see the best of Alaimalo during his time with the Stags and he probably did not have the impact many had hoped.
His also played at Super Rugby level for the Chiefs and Highlanders.
Alaimalo will become West Tigers player No 283 when he takes to the field against the Broncos on Saturday night.
He takes the place of Junior Tupou (foot injury) on the wing.
When Alaimalo first signed with the Tigers Marshall said the almost two metres tall wing would add a lot to the squad.
“We’re very excited to have Solomon join the club,” Marshall said at the time.
“He is a very explosive athlete with great speed, power, and agility.”
“He will also add leadership and experience to our group, and he is a man of great character.”
