Gore District Council's search for new CEO to start next week
Acting Mayor Keith Hovell said the council was looking forward to getting the recruitment process underway.
The Gore District Council will advertise for a new chief executive next week.
Councillors and the senior management team met with recruitment agency Brannigans on Wednesday to talk about the process and timeline to find a new chief executive.
Acting Mayor Keith Hovell said the council was looking forward to getting the recruitment process underway.
The council hoped to interview potential candidates early in the new year, he said.
On Tuesday, the council unanimously approved, in principle, key components of an agreement that will see current chief executive Stephen Parry stay in an interim chief executive role.
Parry had resigned and was scheduled to finish next Tuesday after 22 years at the helm of the council. He has agreed to take the role of interim chief executive after deputy chief executive Rex Capil resigned to take up a senior role at Invercargill City Council.
The decision to retain Parry in an interim basis hasn’t been welcomed by all.
Three voted against Parry’s interim appointment and recent behind closed doors meeting.
A newly formed Gore District Citizen Action Group has also circulated a petition that has called for Parry not to be retained at the council in an interim role.
A small group of protesters was present on Tuesday before the council met to discuss the interim appointment of Parry.
