Seven days after Tobias Van der heever put his name in lights with one of the more remarkable batting displays seen in Southland club cricket he doubled down.
Playing for Marist against competition leaders Invercargill-Old Boys Van der heever struck 15 fours and four sixes on his way to 116 from 102 balls.
Seven days earlier Van der heever had scored a startling 224 from 124 balls playing against Southland Boys’ High School.
To put his ridiculous fortnight into perspective the 22-year-old South African has scored a combined 340 runs from 226 balls, including 43 fours and 15 sixes.
When Van der heever departed on Saturday Marist were 176 for three and pushed on to 263 for eight from its 50 overs.
In reply, Invercargill-Old Boys fell 78 runs short despite Blake Buttar-Scurr’s 60 from 61 balls to go with his three wickets earlier in the day. Luke Renyolds picked up four wickets for Marist.
Meanwhile, in other ILT Premier League action on Saturday Nic Reed also posted a rapid-fire century scoring 110 in Waikoikoi’s nine wicket win over the Southland Boys’ High School’s first XI.
The pupils posted 203 batting first with Mika Muliania contributing 57 and Nick Brown 30.
But it wasn’t enough as Reed teamed up with George Franklin (84*) making for another tough day out for the Southland Boys’ bowlers who managed just the one wicket.
In the third game, Appleby bounced back from a top-of-the-table loss to Invercargill-Old Boys last week with a win over the Metro Tigers on Saturday.
Keiran Lloyd posted a half century as Appleby pushed past 270 when setting a total. Veterans Jason Osborne and Matt Burgess both chipped in with knocks of 40 in the chase but that was it for Metro as it fell close to 120 runs short.
