ANALYSIS: There are about 13,000 people in the Gore District, give or take a few. It’s a dot on the map of New Zealand.

Per person, the district more than pulls its weight in terms of its contribution to New Zealand’s GDP.

But it shouldn’t really attract the national headlines it is at the moment.

It isn’t a place that you would expect to feature in a prime-time national current affairs slot.
