ILT Premier League club cricket reaches crunch stage
Appleby, Invercargill-Old Boys, Waikoikoi and Marist have advanced to the first week of Southland senior club cricket playoffs.
The round-robin stage of the season is done with Southland’s ILT Premier League cricket season now about to go up a notch.
Appleby, Invercargill-Old Boys, Waikoikoi and Marist have advanced to the first week of the playoffs on Saturday.
The top two teams - Appleby and Invercargill-Old Boys - will clash with the winner advancing straight to the grand final.
The loser will get a second life and will take on the winner of the Waikoikoi v Marist game for the other spot in the final.
The loser of the Waikoikoi-Marist game will be knocked out of the playoffs.
Just one game was played in the final round of round-robin play on Saturday with Waikoikoi grabbing a six-wicket victory over the Metro Tigers.
Metro posted 114 batting first with Liam McFaul and Kurt Thompson picking up three wickets apiece. Waikoikoi passed the target with the loss of four wickets.
The Invercargill-Old Boys and Appleby game was abandoned, while Southland Boys’ High School defaulted its game to Marist.
SBHS started its traditional two-day interschool fixture against Kings today [Sunday] and earlier in the week played Shirley Boys in another two-day fixture.
The SBHS-Marist did not have anything riding on it, in terms of the ILT Premier League standings.
