Insight: Just what does the Southland Business Chamber actually do?
Insight: We have asked leaders from various Southland organisations to share a bit about some of the wins they have had and also some the challenges that both them and the region may be facing.
Today we are launching a weekly column spot called “Insight”. We have asked leaders of various Southland organisations to share a bit about some of the wins they are having and also some of the challenges they may be facing. We start this week with Southland Business Chamber’s CEO Sheree Carey.
Welcome to my first column!
As this will be a monthly spotlight on the Chamber and our members, I thought it best to set the scene with a bit of an introduction to what the Southland Business Chamber is and what we do.
Simply put, the Chamber is a community of businesses and organisations that come together to support one another, share ideas, and make a positive impact on the Southland region.
Our members come from a wide range of industries and sectors, from small family-owned businesses to large corporations. No matter the size or type of business, we are all united in our passion for making Southland a better place to live, work, and do business.
So, what does the Chamber actually do? Well, a big part of our work is advocacy.
We represent the interests of our members to local and central government, advocating for policies and initiatives that will support a thriving business community in Southland.
We also provide a range of services and resources to our members.
For example, we offer networking opportunities, professional development courses, training and briefings on everything from employment law changes to updates on government legislation. Providing these resources, we can help our members grow and succeed.
One thing that sets the Chamber apart is our focus on collaboration. We believe that by working together with other organisations, we can achieve more than we could on our own. That’s why we work closely with other local groups like Great South, as well as with government agencies and other stakeholders.
Ultimately, our goal is to create a thriving business community in Southland. We want to see businesses grow and succeed, creating jobs and contributing to the local economy.
So, if you’re a business owner in Southland, or if you’re thinking about starting a business here, I encourage you to get involved with the Chamber. We’re here to support you, to advocate for you, and to help you grow and succeed. Together, we can make a positive impact on the Southland region, and create a brighter future for all of us.
Our big win this month: Securing the location of 25 Don St to establish a Business & Innovation Hub in the CBD –more details on this exciting initiative in next months’ column.
Until then, Kia pao to ra | Have a great day
