Invercargill Central's latest retail addition
“We’ve seen strong demand from Invercargill for some time, so it will be great to have a store presence in this first-class mall.”
The latest addition to the Invercargill Central jigsaw puzzle will be put in place on Friday.
Doors will officially open to the new JB Hi-Fi Invercargill store on Friday at Invercargill Central.
Invercargill Central is the multi-million dollar retail, food and beverage, and car park development in the city’s CBD.
JB Hi-Fi was established in 1974 by Mr John Barbuto (JB), trading from a single store in East Keilor, Victoria, Australia. He had one simple philosophy: to deliver a specialist range of Hi-Fi and recorded music at the lowest prices.
JB Hi-Fi rapidly grew in Australia and now has over 200 stores nationwide. JB Hi-Fi then moved to New Zealand in 2007.
With the original philosophy at the core of the business, JB stores offer leading brands of computers, mobile phones, tablets, TVs, cameras, Hi-Fi, speakers, home theatre, portable audio and stacks more.
The decision to open an Invercargill store as part of the newly establish mall complex is part of the retailer’s “ambitious expansion plans”. It will also be the trans-Tasman retailer’s southernmost store.
Tim Edwards, Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, says he’s looking forward to JB Hi-Fi becoming part of the Invercargill community:
“We’ve seen strong demand from Invercargill for some time, so it will be great to have a store presence in this first-class mall.”
“We want to provide the best customer experience for Kiwis – wherever they are in the country. The new store will offer more choice and a unique shopping experience.”
The Invercargill Central store will create 25 new jobs for the city to meet the expected demand in the growing mall.
Tony Keay, Store Manager of JB Hi-Fi Invercargill, says that after months of intensive training, local employees have become part of the JB Hi-Fi family.
“We’re not just opening a store; we’re becoming a part of Invercargill’s story, and we look forward to welcoming customers through our doors.”
In the lead-up to the opening, customers will also be able to enter JB Hi-Fi’s “What’s in the Box” competition, which has been travelling the country.
The three-metre cube offers a chance to win over $5000 worth of prizes by correctly guessing the items inside.
Consumers can enter by visiting the box, which is located inside the mall. The competition is on now and a winner will be drawn on Monday, 19 February.
JB Hi-Fi is a welcome addition to the Invercargill retail scene. I was surprised by the size of that store compared to the nearby shops. Given the trends toward online shopping, it is interesting to see a retail outlet doing more than flying the flag for its related website.
