Invercargill City Council questioned over loss of plant-based factory

A disgruntled ratepayer is questioning how the region lost a plant-based milk factory planned for Makarewa and wants to know what the Invercargill City Council knew about it.
New Zealand Functional Foods [NZFF] initially planned to construct a factory near Invercargill with the capacity to produce up to 80 million litres of plant-based milk a year.
Although the company confirmed last week it now intends to build the factory elsewhere - most likely in Canterbury.
On Friday Rodney Tribe - who keeps a close eye on council happenings - sent an email to Invercargill City Council CEO Michael Day raising a host of concerns about what Tribe says is an “unbelievable” and “unacceptable” situation that requires an urgent review.
Tribe copied then Regional Development Minister Kiri Allan and Local Government Minister Kieran McAnulty into the email.
