Ivy Clinic: A 'fearless cheerleader for your skin'
The Ivy Clinic initially opened in Queenstown, and when they started to get regular visits from Southlanders who had travelled to the Ivy Clinic, there was a light-bulb moment.
Hydrobrasion. I’ll be honest, up until a week or so ago I didn’t know what that word meant. Let alone did I consider booking an appointment for the procedure.
In simple terms, hydrobrasion helps restore healthy skin function.
Before I had the chance to whip up an excuse in my head Ivy Clinic’s Kaylie Harrison had me booked in for a session at the recently opened Invercargill Ivy Clinic in Windsor.
I’m pleased Kaylie did. It was a worthy step outside my comfort zone.
I’m a 40-something-year-old bloke who has shown my skin little to love over the years. I’m a former cricketer who spent many years out in the sun with little regard to my poor battered skin which copped the brunt of endless hours of sun.
I’ve been told the hydrobrasion procedure combines the healing powers of oxygen and water to gently exfoliate and hydrate your skin.
While the purpose is to show your skin some love, I can now vouch that it also provides the added bonus of a nice relaxing moment away from the outside world.
Ivy Clinic is a popular new addition to Invercargill. Hydrobrasion is one of the services they offer up.
They have both appearance medicine and skin therapy packages.
In 2016, Kaylie - a cosmetic registered nurse - and physiotherapist Ebony Hornibrook, met at work in Queenstown.
Ebony was an advocate for the benefits of subtle, preventative injectables. Kaylie was researching the transformative and confidence-boosting power of appearance medicine.
Over a glass (or two) of Central Otago wine, they talked about what they felt was missing in New Zealand’s appearance medicine landscape.
Their answer was to launch the Ivy Clinic in 2018 – a fresh, contemporary, appearance medicine clinic delivering advanced, well-researched treatment in a low-key luxe environment.
They initially opened in Queenstown, and when they started to get regular visits from Southlanders who had travelled to the Ivy Clinic, there was a light-bulb moment.
Maybe they should also bring the Ivy Clinic to Southland, they thought. Now they have.
They have set up base in freshly fitted out tranquil space at the Windsor Mall complex at 38 Windsor St - which also houses Eat on Windsor.
“It was going really well in Queenstown and was really busy and people would always come back to us, so we knew we had a good model. We thought we would give it a go and come to Invercargill as well,” Kaylie says.
“We had people from Riverton, Gore, and some Invercargill people traveling up to Queenstown and we were getting more and more inquiries from Southland.”
The Ivy Clinic’s “pinkie promise” is they will solemnly swear to uphold three mantras: 1. To build your confidence. 2. Respect what your mama gave ya 3. Keep it real.
They describe themselves as a “fearless cheerleader for your skin and beauty”.
The key is finding out what the client wants and then tailoring what they do from there, Kaylie says.
“First, we listen, then create an expertly tailored skincare regime, so you can feel naked skin confident.”
“You deserve honest, attainable skin treatments that get visible results. We always start by listening. We’ll never give you the hard sell, overpromise, subscribe to an unattainable ‘look’, judge you or make you feel flawed.”
Kaylie adds there can be a misperception about appearance medicine when the like of Botox is mentioned.
But it shouldn’t be the case, that’s what the Ivy Clinic specialists are there to work through.
“If it is used appropriately, it can maintain the way you look rather than change the way you look,” Kaylie says.
Treat yourself - your skin and mind will thank you. At the very least venture in for a chat with the friendly team to find out more.
The Ivy Clinic team collectively has 70+ years of experience in the industry and tested plenty of machines, treatments, and product ranges.
“We’ve handpicked only those we believe are safe, worth it, and have actually been shown to get results.”
