Leitch set to go in Le Mans Cup round in Spain
“I think we have a good shot at a podium,” said Leitch. “We have a similar BoP (Balance of Performance) to the last round and we should be quick."
Southland’s Brendon Leitch and Leipert Motorsport teammate Gerhard Watzinger head to Motorland Aragón in Spain for the fourth round of the 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup.
It’s the first time at this circuit for both the series, for Leitch and the team with 40 cars across the two classes on the grid for the 110-minute race on Friday 25 August.
“It’s a new track for our team and the GT3 category,” Leitch said.
“And it’s going to be really hot, but this is what we train for.”
The GT3 grid will feature six manufacturers run by six different teams as they battle to become the 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 Champions. With three podium finishes, including a win in the opening round in Barcelona, the #10 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin Vantage of Arnold Robin and Valentin Hasse Clot heads to Aragón with a 10-point advantage at the head of the leader board.
“I think we have a good shot at a podium,” said Leitch. “We have a similar BoP (Balance of Performance) to the last round and we should be quick.
“It’s a fun track with a mixture of fast, slow corners with some on-edge quick elevation. While we do a lot of sim-work learning the track, nothing beats the real thing. Fortunately, we have two days of testing on Wednesday and Thursday then qualifying Friday morning before the race later that day.
Leitch and teammate Watzinger are currently eighth overall competing in the GT3 category driving the #70 Crowdstrike Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. The 40-car grid will feature 80 drivers and 25 teams from 21 different nations all competing to be the first winners in Le Mans Cup Series history to win in Aragón.
