New Southland Stags recruit trains with Crusaders
Dylan Nel is now back in New Zealand and has joined the Crusaders to train with them in Christchurch this week.
New Southland Stags recruit Dylan Nel has spent some time training with Super Rugby powerhouses the Crusaders in Christchurch this week.
The Stags confirmed the signing of the experienced No 8 earlier in the month.
Nel began his professional rugby career with Canterbury and Otago, before impressing selectors and coaches earning a Super Rugby call up for the Chiefs.
He has since been playing and has just finished a stint playing for the Mitsubishi Dynaboars in Japan.
He is now back in New Zealand and has joined the Crusaders to train with them in Christchurch this week.
The Crusaders have some injury troubles which includes No 8 Cullen Grace who dislocated his kneecap against the Waratahs in Christchurch on Saturday.
Fellow Crusaders looseforward Ethan Blackadder is also on the injured list.
He hasn’t played since tearing his calf against the Brumbies on March 24 and while he won’t play against the Hurricanes this weekend, he will train this week.Â
When Rugby Southland’s director of rugby Matt Saunders confirmed Nel’s signing he said the plan was for Nel to play for Midlands in the final few rounds of the Southland club season in the lead up to the Stags preseason.
