Old Boys AFC books Southern Premier League spot
Old Boys have beaten Queenstown 2-0 which now has the Southland club eyeing a shot at the Southern Premier League in 2025.

Old Boys AFC has booked a spot in the 2025 Southern Premier League.
The Invercargill-based football club this year lined up in the Dunedin-based Fletcher Cup competition with the hope to build towards a spot in the Southern Premier League.
That has played out as planned.
The Southern Premier League is Football South’s top club competition covering clubs from Timaru south.
Old Boys won the Fletcher Cup competition this season which set up a playoff against Queenstown. Queenstown was the bottom-placed Southern Premier League team this season
That playoff game was played on Saturday in Queenstown, and it was Old Boys which prevailed 2-0 over Queenstown which now has the Southland club eyeing a shot at the Southern Premier League in 2025.
Old Boys will join fellow Invercargill-based club Queens Park as Southland teams in the Southern Premier League.
Queens Park made the decision in 2022 to join the Southern Premier League, the first Southland team to do so since 2013.
Queens Park has held its own in the league over the past three seasons in a competition that can be demanding given the travel involved.
Old Boys’ arrival in 2025 will set up a Southland derby which will add some intrigue to the league.
