Partnership to shine light on dementia and the care in Southland

The SBS Bank Southland Stags and The Hawthorndale Care Village have united.
They have partnered in the quest is to raise awareness of both dementia and the care that’s provided in Southland.
As part of the partnership The Hawthorndale Care Village logo will be displayed on the upper back of all playing jerseys and replicas throughout the upcoming season.
The initiative will also include awareness campaigns and donation drives, with support from mutual supporters such as SBS Bank, ILT, and businesses and volunteers from the rugby community.
The Hawthorndale Care Village - a $35m project - is a specialist dementia and aged care facility currently under construction.
It is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to individuals and families affected by dementia in the Southland region.
Rugby Southland stated the partnership signified a united effort to address the pressing issue of cognitive health among former rugby players, and it also served as a way for the rugby community to give back to the region.
Rugby Southland general manager Steve Mitchell said the Southland Stags were proud to join forces with a crucial cause such as The Hawthorndale Care Village.
“Through the power of rugby, we can raise awareness and generate support for dementia care in our community. We hope that this partnership inspires other organizations to come forward and make a meaningful impact,” Mitchell said.
The Director of Rugby for the Southland Stags, Matt Saunders, echoed Mitchell’s sentiments.
“As a rugby team, we recognize our responsibility to support the wider community. Our partnership with The Hawthorndale Care Village reflects our commitment to cognitive and brain health advocacy and our dedication to giving back.
“We are honoured to contribute to raising awareness for dementia care in Southland.”
Hawthorndale Care Village general manager Helen Robinson was excitement about the partnership.
“Together, we can bring greater attention to the critical issue of dementia care and provide support to those affected by this condition.”
Hawthorndale Care Village Board Paddy O'Brien said the partnership with the Stags was “a remarkable initiative”.
“[It] emphasizes the importance of unity in addressing a community need. By raising awareness and encouraging donations, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by dementia."
