The Southland Business Chamber has announced the three finalists for the inaugural Reece McDonald Local Legend Award.
The Award has been established in memory of the late Reece McDonald to honour business owners who go above and beyond for their communities.
The award recognises a Southland business owner who exemplifies outstanding community spirit through generosity, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive impact beyond the workplace.
Following a robust judging process, the three finalists for 2025 are:
Bernie Brown, Owner of McKnight & Brown
Haylee-Chanel Simeon, Owner of Hayz at The Anchorage in Bluff
Nick Hamlin, Founder of Maxis Projects
Southland Business Chamber CEO Sheree Carey said the judging panel was deeply moved by the calibre of nominations received.
“We were humbled by the incredible stories of care, leadership and impact happening across Southland.
“Reece’s family were involved in shaping this award, and like us, they believe Reece would be incredibly proud of the work being done in his name. Choosing just three finalists was incredibly tough.”
Each of the finalists reflects the values McDonald embodied – selflessness, community service, and a genuine love for Southland and its people.
The winner will be announced at the Southland Business Excellence Awards Gala on Friday 19 September 2025 at the Ascot Park Hotel.
