Rugby Southland setting up for its future Stags

On top of locking in local talent, the 2024 Rugby Southland academy group is also likely to feature some promising talent from elsewhere in the country.

In the coming days Rugby Southland will reveal its academy group for 2024 and The Tribune understands there have been some significant victories in putting the group together.

The most pressing issue was to lock in the best young local Southland talent, including those from the SBHS first XV which became national champions in 2023.

There appears to have been some success on that front for Rugby Southland academy and pathways manager Scott Eade who himself has developed into a real asset for Southland rugby.

He has worked overtime in getting what is expected to be a strong academy group.

On top of locking in local talent, the 2024 academy group is also likely to feature some promising talent from elsewhere in the country. They are players who have opted to choose Southland in a quest to progress to the NPC level.
