The suggestion to honour long-standing mayor Sir Tim Shadbolt at the Invercargill Airport is likely to come to a council vote.

Mayor Nobby Clark plans to consult Iwi this week, and then other organisations, on the proposed Sir Tim Shadbolt Airport naming.

Although ultimately it will be a decision for the Invercargill City Council to make.

Last month a group of North Island-based Shadbolt supporters made a public plea for the Invercargill Airport to be renamed the Sir Tim Shadbolt Airport in honour of the former long-standing mayor.

The suggestion has gained the backing of Clark, Invercargill’s current mayor, who has now started to progress it.
