Southland's Brendon Leitch still in fight for Asian Le Mans Series title
After two thrilling races at the Sepang International Circuit in Maylaysia, the series moves to the UAE for Race 3 at the Dubai Autodrome Circuit, on 4 February.
Although the opening two races of the 2023/24 Asian Le Mans Series proved frustrating for Southland’s Brendon Leitch and his Leipert Motorsport team, they haven’t given up on fighting for the title with three races still remaining.
After two thrilling races at the Sepang International Circuit in Maylaysia, the series moves to the UAE for Race 3 at the Dubai Autodrome Circuit, on 4 February followed one week later by the final two rounds at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
“For us, it will be full ahead as we are not out of the fight yet,” commented Leitch. “We need to take it to the end and will be doing the best we can with strategy and the car.”
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe champion joins teammates, top AM (Amateur) driver Gabriel Rindone and Lamborghini factory driver Marco Mapelli, to compete in a factory-supported Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2.
Fifth place in a rain-interrupted opening race race was unfortunately followed by a retirement out of the final four-hour race in Malaysia, putting them on the back foot heading to Dubai.
“We have the same team and the same lineup,” said Leitch.
“I know that we will be competitive. It is a matter of keeping our nose clean and seeing how we go.”
Forty-two entries will take to the grid for the four-hour race with 19 prototypes and 23 GTs. Qualifying takes place on Saturday 3 February with racing underway at 1pm (local time) on Sunday 4 February.
