Splash Palace now home to world’s 8th fastest time
Erika Fairweather produced her fastest 400m freestyle time of her career at the South Island Long Course Championships held in Invercargill over the weekend.
New Zealand swimming star Erika Fairweather has delivered a treat for Southland swimming followers.
The Olympian produced her fastest 400m freestyle time of her career at the South Island Long Course Championships held at Splash Palace in Invercargill over the weekend.
Fairweather completed the 400m in 4:00.97 beating the next-closest swimmer by over 13 seconds.
The Dunedin 19-year-old bettered her previous lifetime best and New Zealand record of 4:02.28 which was produced in the heats of the event at the 2020 Olympic Games.
The new record puts Fairweather 8th on the global list, in terms of quickest women’s 400m times.
If that wasn’t enough, Fairweather followed that 400m freestyle New Zealand record with another national record at Splash Palace on Saturday.
She has clocked 1:56.73 in the 200m freestyle breaking Lauren Boyle's 1:56.82 record.
