Club Rugby: Emery brilliance keeps Barbarians' unbeaten record intact
Another week and another last-play thriller in Southland’s premier club rugby competition as the Eastern-Northern Barbarians keep its unbeaten record alive with a thrilling win over Marist. Jeremy Kendle writes name into Southland Sharks record books
American import Jeremy Kendle has etched his name into the Southland Sharks record books with a remarkable display against the Manawatu Jets on Saturday. Kendle delivered the impressive stat-line of 20 points and 20 assists as he played another important role in lifting the Sharks to a 105-89 victory over the Jets in Palmerston North. Queens Park has returned from Wanaka with a competition point from its Southern Premier League showdown with Wanaka on Saturday.
Queens Park - the sole Southland team in the Southern league - conceded a goal at the 11-minute mark.
Goals to Jeison Martinez (54min) and Calem Castle (74min) had Queens Park out in front at 2-1 at one point.
However, that did not last long given through Dakota Brady Wanaka scored again to level it up at 2-2 which ended up being the final score.
Queens Park sits at the bottom of the standings and will welcome a home fixture against Green Island this Saturday in Invercargill.
While the club’s Southern Premier League team sits towards the bottom of the league Queens Park is having some success in the Southland Express Premier League in Southland.
Queens Park is second in the competition standings on the back of a 10-2 win over Balclutha on Saturday.
Although it is Te Anau which continues to lead the way in the competition with its five-from-five record, the latest was a 3-1 victory over one of the Thistle teams in the league.
In other fixtures on Saturday one Old Boys team banked a 6-0 win over Winton, and the other beat Gore 3-1.
The other Gore side had 4-4 draw with Thistle and Southend United picked up a 2-1 victory over Waihopai.

Woodlands is a small rural settlement 16km out of Invercargill, and the sheer quality of talent that has passed through its rugby club over the years is remarkable.
