The Southland Stags loose forward depth looks set to be tested with the team left wounded following its Ranfurly Shield loss to Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Southland U19 topple Otago rivals
Southland Under-19 picked up a victory over its Otago rugby counterparts on Saturday continuing its encouraging start to its 2023 campaign. After leading 21-12 at halftime at the Les George Oval the Richard Jones-coached Southland Under-19 team closed out the confidence-boosting 36-27 win. (READ MORE HERE)
Speeding down Queens Drive - No tickets issued
Queens Drive became a racetrack on Saturday. The occasion was the St Pauls road mile, the shortest running event on the Southland harrier calendar. (READ MORE HERE).
Phoenix three-peat….
It came down to a penalty shootout but Phoenix Orange got the job done to make it three in a row in Southland hockey’s Division 1 men’s club competition.
In Saturday’s grand final against Eastern United, the scores were level at 2-2 before heading to a penalty shootout in the decider. Phoenix Orange won that shootout 3-0 to claim the title.
Meanwhile, Mataura Gold continued its dominance in the Division 1 women’s club competition when it beat Southern in Saturday’s final.
There was no need for a penalty shootout in the women’s decider with Mataura Gold claiming a 4-1 victory.
Queens Park does it again….
Queens Park impressive run in the ODT Southern Premier League Men continues. On Saturday it picked up a 2-0 win at home through goals to Jeison Martinez and Ryo Okuyama.
It means Queens Park has won six of its last seven outings in a competition that is made up of clubs from Timaru down to Queens Park.
Queens Park is the sole Southland club in the competition and sits fourth in the 10-team league.
