Jordan Michels proved to be the home track hero at Invercargill’s Teretonga Park on Saturday. Round 2 of the Carter’s Tyre Service South Island Endurance Series at Teretonga Park in Invercargill on Saturday provided three exciting races which included Michels triumph in the Class 2/3 1 Hour race. It’s not a stat that some will be all that thrilled with me bringing up. But we might as well stare down reality head-on.
It’s been eight years since the Southland Stags won an NPC game away from home. August 22, 2015 to be precise.
That day a Brad Mooar-coached Southland team beat Northland 27-18 in Whangarei. Lima Sopoaga kicked five from six from the boot and Tim Boys scored the opening try, to give you an indicator of how long ago it was.
The reason I bring it up?
The Southland Stags will travel to Palmerston North to take on Manawatu next Sunday in an attempt to break that hoodoo.
First though is a showdown with Bay of Plenty at Rugby Park in Invercargill on Wednesday night.
