14-year-old bowls talent shines in Te Anau…
Fourteen-year-old Zoe Beck yet again highlighted her bowls talent by taking out the last Bowls Southland event of the season in Te Anau.
Beck teamed up with her Waihopai club mate Craig Tinker to win the Bowls Southland Champion of Champions Mixed Pairs tournament. It involved various club champions from throughout the province.
Beck went to the NZ Under 21 singles during the Easter period which was her first time playing at that level. She won eight games out of the 12 she played.

Steel’s preseason preparations…
The Southern Steel is in the midst of putting the finishing touches on its preseason preparations ahead of the start of the 2025 ANZ Premierships.
The Steel headed to Christchurch this week, where they lined up against the Mainland Tactix and Central Pulse in preseason outings.
The Wendy Frew-coached Steel toppled the Pulse 46-35 earlier on Saturday before losing 62-58 to the Tactix later in the day.
The Steel also has a hitout against a Christchurch men’s team on Sunday morning.
Their opening ANZ Premiership game will be against the Tactix in Christchurch on May 11.
