Stadium Southland GM role officially hits market
Fancy yourself as the Stadium Southland's next general manager? The job has been advertised.
Three key performance areas have been identified in the search for Stadium Southland’s next general manager.
The role has officially hit the job market following the resignation of Nigel Skelt in May.
The stadium board spent some time working through what they wanted from the role before advertising the position.
Skelt had held the position from before the venue opened in 2000.
Interim Stadium Southland Limited board chair Hayden Rankin said a sub-committee had been set up to work through filling the general manager position.
Rankin is not part of the committee, although while not actively involved he was aware of what was happening.
A recruitment company has been enlisted to work through application process before the sub-committee will present to the wider board to look at the recommendations.
Rankin could not put a time frame on when the role might be filled, given it would depend on what applicants they got and what potential agreements were in place with current employers.
Long-serving operations manager Ryan Sycamore has stepped in as interim general manager.
It’s been a busy couple months for the stadium staff with the likes of the Murihiku Polyfest, South Island secondary schools netball tournament, Davis Cup tennis tie, and other events at the venue.
The key performance areas have been identified in the job advert are:
Strategy
“It is essential the ILT Stadium Southland strike the balance between supporting and servicing the local community needs, and ensuring commercial success. It will be critical for the General Manager to manage this balance, making the centre attractive to both new and existing users across the community and commercial spaces.”
Finances
“The GM will need to have a strong understanding of what financially healthy looks within an organisation with multiple revenue streams, including from a charitable trust. This means a solid comprehension of the financial and non-financial key performance indicators that will affect fiscal health.”
Public Relations and Communication
“The GM is the face of the organisation within the complex to the team, to the local community who use it, and to the external stakeholders. They will provide a leadership example and a positive attitude, delivering the message about exciting events coming to Southland.”
