Stags to play in one-off jersey for Hawthorndale Care Village
The unique playing jerseys will remain hidden from the public eye until the moment the Stags run out for the September 27 game at Rugby Park in Invercargill.
The Southland Stags are set to run out in a yet-to-be-revealed one-off playing jersey when they take on Bay of Plenty in Invercargill on Wednesday, September 27.
The special one-off jersey is a charitable initiative aimed at raising funds for The Hawthorndale Care Village.
The Hawthorndale Care Village is an ambitious project that will provide specialized care for individuals living with dementia. It is under construction and set to open in 2025.
The unique jersey will remain hidden from the public eye until the moment the Stags run out for the game at Rugby Park next Wednesday.
The jersey will have all existing team partners logos in their respective positions.
Following the game, these limited-edition playing jerseys will be autographed by the players and auctioned off in the following weeks.
All proceeds generated from the jersey auction will be directed towards supporting the Hawthorndale Care Village project.
Fans and supporters of the SBS Bank Southland Stags will also have the opportunity to pre-order these exclusive jerseys, which will become available on the day of the game.
Notably, $10 from every pre-ordered jersey sold will also be donated to the Hawthorndale Care Village, thanks to Paladin Sports. Donations for the Hawthorndale Care Village will also be able to be made at the gates at the game or online.
Hawthorndale Care Village project manager Helen Robinson expressed her heartfelt appreciation towards Rugby Southland for giving them the opportunity to promote their cause through the Stags.
“We're deeply grateful to Rugby Southland for their support and for allowing us to partner with the SBS Bank Southland Stags to promote our cause.
“The Hawthorndale Care Village project is vital for our community, and we are honoured to have the Stags as our champions in this endeavour. We hope that our Southland fans will join us in making a significant contribution to this important cause.”
Rugby Southland Commercial and Marketing Manager Jack King added: “Many of Rugby Southland's team partners have also shown their commitment to the Hawthorndale Care Village project by making significant donations.
“Together, we aim to raise as much as possible to go towards their project costs, which is looking to be over $35 million!".
SBS Bank, proud major partner of the SBS Bank Southland Stags and community funder of the Care Village, have also teamed up with the Stags to donate $1 for every tackle made by the team this year, which is looking to be over 1500 this season.
The SBS Bank Southland Stags encourage all fans to attend the game, pre-order their special jerseys, and participate in the post-game auction. By doing so, they can be part of a heartfelt initiative to support the Hawthorndale Care Village and make a positive impact on the lives of individuals living with dementia in the Southland region.
The Hawthorndale Care Village logo will be proudly worn on the upper back of the jersey, as it has been all season.
