With the demolition of the Club Hotel set to begin, the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival Committee has announced that the 2024 Festival will go ahead on Saturday 25 May 2024.Â
The Bluff Oyster & Food Festival Charitable Trust’s ongoing quest to have the Bluff Club Hotel demolished took a significant leap forward when it was granted consent to demolish it in December.
It had canceled the 2023 Festival because it hadn’t received consent to demolish the building. Prior to that Covid restrictions had halted the festival.
The last time it has been held was 2021.
Gate entry tickets for the 2024 event are $50 for all and tickets will be released in stages on different days beginning on Wednesday 20 March. All tickets will be sold on the festival’s official Trade Me account - (oysterfestival). Â
Festival organisers say notice of ticket release dates will be made ahead of time and will be listed on multiple dates to allow people to find a suitable date they can purchase them.
That also allows purchasers time to prepare for the ticket release with funds and/or having access to a Trade Me account.
The Festival was last held in 2021, the 2022 event cancelled due to the threat of Covid outbreaks and subsequent possible rapid changes to the traffic light settings existing at the time while the 2023 Festival cancellation revolved around the health and safety concerns of volunteers and patrons due to the state of the Club Hotel adjoining the site.
It is a welcome return for Southland with the popular event drawing people from all over New Zealand and beyond.
The 2024 Festival will feature food stalls, predominantly but not limited to seafood, with of course the succulent Bluff Oyster the hottest item at the event.
Good food requires fine beverages and organisers say there will be a wide offering at the Festival while the popular Oyster eating and opening events plus other novelty events are set to go ahead again.
Musical entertainment is a big part of the day, and a lineup of entertainment will feature on the main stage.
