The Eagles are coming to Invercargill
The Society has contributed over $5 million to the Halberg Foundation through their regional Eagles Golf Days.

Sorry to all those music buffs who saw the heading and got excited that their favourite band was coming to Invercargill.
The Eagles band isn’t coming, but the Eagles Golfing Society of New Zealand members are.
This year the Southland Eagles are hosting over 270 attendees from all around New Zealand at the 58th National Convention (“Wild South”) in Invercargill from Monday February 24 to Wednesday February 26. With the obligatory AGM and cocktail evening welcome on the Monday, there is two days of golf competition at the Invercargill and Green Acres courses for the men and at the Winton and Queens Park courses for the ladies.
The main event is the Golfer of the Year dinner on the Tuesday night at the Ascot Park Hotel.
Previous GOY winners include Sir Bob Charles (1968), Steven Alker (1990), Danny Lee (2008) and Dame Lydia Ko (2011-13).
Established in 1964, the Eagles Golfing Society is a charitable society whose members are involved in and support the Halberg Disability Sports Foundation and Junior Golf.

The Eagles Golfing Society has partnered with the Halberg Foundation (formerly Halberg Disability Sports Foundation and Halberg Trust) since 1969 when legendary American Olympic Champion, Jesse Owens was guest speaker at the annual “Sportsman of the Year” Dinner.
It took the vision of former Halberg Trustee and NZ Eagles President, the late Leo Hendrey, to arrange a charity golf day where the business leaders of the day paid to play in a tournament with Jesse Owens.
The Society has contributed over $5 million to the Halberg Foundation through their regional Eagles Golf Days. These funds are allocated primarily to the Foundation’s Activity Fund grants towards equipment, lessons and camps thereby giving physically disabled young people more activity more often linked with sporting and recreational opportunities within their communities.
Let’s hope the weather plays ball to showcase Southland at its best to our Eagles convention attendees.
