Residents battling severe erosion in Bluecliffs have been applauded for making plans to relocate their houses or shift out of the area entirely. The small Southland township of just under 20 permanent residents has been under a state of emergency since February 8 as both the Waiau River and nearby ocean threaten properties. (READ MORE HERE).
Deputy Mayor: Resident survey results 'awful'
Invercargill’s Deputy Mayor says the public’s view of the council is “awful” and they shouldn’t continue to accept that. The Invercargill City Council conducts resident surveys and for the past three years, just 17% to 20% of respondents have been satisfied with the council’s democratic process. (READ MORE HERE).

Riverton Heritage Harvest Festival - March 23 & 24
This is the festival's 15th year of celebrating Southland's home harvest and features many low-cost workshops on growing, harvesting, preserving and sharing good food, as well as land-based skills and crafts. The festival weekend also offers demonstrations, displays, children’s crafts and games, a Country Mouse market, and a community pot-luck harvest dinner.

Horse accident: Trainer Nikki Blatch is recovering at home after a horse truck accident put her in hospital with a broken arm. The break is high up in the left arm and close to the shoulder. It required surgery at Dunedin Hospital recently. (READ MORE HERE).
