The impacts of a cyanobacterial bloom at a Southland lagoon won’t be known for some time, but the water has been restored. Waituna Lagoon — a wetland of international significance — had to be opened to the ocean in January due to the threat of the toxic algae. (READ MORE HERE).

ILT Kidzone Festival - July 10 to 15 - Southland Girls’ High School
An enormous amount of fun is in store for Southland families, with tickets on sale now for the 19th ILT Kidzone Festival, 10 to 15 July 2024. Preparations for the community event, proudly presented by Great South, are well underway.
Themed ‘Make, Create, Play’, this year’s festival returning to Southland Girls’ High School, home of the ILT Kidzone Festival, will include over 100 activities for children and their caregivers to enjoy together, including new activities including axe throwing, mini robots, and sensory lane just to name a few!
Tickets to ILT Kidzone are $21 per person per day per ticket, inclusive of fees, with under two-year-olds free. Ticket price is all-inclusive covering all activities, rides and experiences.
