Invercargill’s famed former tuatara carer Lindsay Hazley has been retired for just over a year now. Logan Savory caught up with Hazley to chat about last week’s surprise tuatara baby finding, as well as his disappointment about not being part of the design of Invercargill’s new tuatara enclosure. Four-year terms on table for local elections
A local election overhaul is on the cards with four-year terms, the end of postal votes, and a change in who runs the polls all up for consideration. Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) has set up a group, headed by Nelson Mayor Nick Smith, to consider how best to improve voter turnout. (READ MORE HERE).
Third Gore council CEO starts in role
The Gore District Council on Tuesday welcomed only its third chief executive in its 35-year history, Debbie Lascelles. Elected members, staff and representatives from the Hokonui Rūnaga welcomed Lascelles to the District with a mihi whakatau in the Gore Library. (READ MORE HERE).
Club Rugby: A look at the Tribune's form XV
Southland’s premier competition rugby clubs will line up for their 10th game on Saturday as the race for the 2024 Galbraith Shield title starts to heat up ahead of the semifinals. Logan Savory has come up with a team of form players from the first nine rounds of the competition. (READ MORE HERE).
Special colours for special win No 700
Jonny Cox donned some of Southland trotting’s most celebrated colours to win his 700th race in New Zealand with Moonlight Angel at Ascot Park yesterday. Cox had the same silks on his father John wore when he drove David Moss to a 41-length victory on the same track in 1990. (READ MORE HERE).
