'Welcome to Lulu land': Te Anau hopeful for December visit
Te Anau Tennis Club officials are hopeful New Zealand’s latest sporting star will make a guest appearance at its annual invitational tournament in December. Te Anau-born Lulu Sun has stunned many by becoming the first New Zealand female player to reach a quarter-final at the famous Wimbledon tournament. (READ MORE HERE).

Joseph O'Donnell named Southland Musician of the Year
Drummer Joseph O’Donnell was last week named Southland Musician of the Year, at the Southland Musicians Club Southland Music Awards. The event, at Ascot Park Hotel, Invercargill, was a reboot of the former Southland Entertainment Awards, which were last held in 2020 before Covid struck. (READ MORE HERE).
Memory Lane partnership a blooming success
Invercargill’s Queens Park is set to get a little brighter in the coming weeks, as hundreds of daffodil bulbs have been planted in partnership with the Invercargill Loss and Grief Centre. (READ MORE HERE).

Contract: Southland Sharks big man Callum McRae has landed himself an overseas contract. The 26-year-old confirmed on The Roar Podcast this week that he had signed a contract with an overseas club and will depart New Zealand in mid-August. The plan is he will return in April next year. Tuatara Trail: Invercargill City Council has announced the opening of the Tuatara Trail, a walking route connecting the former home of the tuatara at the Southland Museum and Art Gallery to their new habitat at Te Moutere – Tuatara Island. (READ MORE HERE).
