'Exercise in Southland pride': The Hayes family's Rugby Park return
Steven Hayes is well accustomed to playing at Rugby Park in Invercargill. He was once a wiry Southland loosehead prop who famously was a thorn in the side for an all All Black Auckland frontrow of Craig Dowd, Sean Fitzpatrick, and Olo Brown. On Thurdsay he will be back playing at Rugby Park, this time alongside son Lachie in a different capacity. (READ MORE HERE).

Invercargill Mayor Nobby Clark is pleased with the Government’s Dunedin Hospital announcement believing it should help avoid similar problems that the Southland Hospital has faced. (READ MORE HERE).

Hercules’ farewell tour…
Three iconic Hercules C130H aircraft landed at Invercargill Airport on Monday night as part of their farewell tour before departing again on Tuesday morning.
After more than 100,000 take-offs and landings and 60 years in the air, the fleet of C-130H Hercules aircraft has been farewelled this week.
The fleet officially retired at the end of January and the planes took a nationwide tour before travelling to RNZAF Base Woodbourne, where four of the five will remain. One will go on display at the Air Force Museum in Wigram, Christchurch.

‘Unacceptable’: A prominent Invercargill businessman has sent the mayor and city councillors an “urgent request” asking them to review the planned 21m power poles at Mill Rd South. Although it doesn’t appear he will get his wish with Mayor Nobby Clark saying the council’s “hands are tied”. (READ MORE HERE).
GodZone: A group - including three Southlanders and All Black great Richie McCaw - have united to ensure the GodZone adventure race goes ahead again after a two-year hiatus. GodZone - the world’s largest expedition race - was cancelled in 2024, due to a concession application being held up by the Department of Conservation. (READ MORE HERE).
