'Six years and $6m later, we have ticked off Blair’s final bucket list'
Blair Vining’s vision was for a charity hospital to help those in the south get timely access to, initially, bowel cancer diagnosis, to improve their chances of survival. The Southern Charity Hospital is modelled on the successful Canterbury Charity Hospital, which has helped thousands of patients since its inception in 2007. (READ MORE HERE).

Melissa Vining - a Southern Charity Hospital board member and driving force behind the hospital - hopes world-renowned surgeon Professor Frank Frizelle’s commitment will encourage other top medical professionals to get involved with the charity hospital. (READ MORE HERE).
Heart of the City: New retail offering fills Kelvin St property
Invercargill’s retail scene is set for a new addition as Niche Boutique prepares to open its doors on Friday. Niche Boutique will fill the space on Kelvin St previously occupied by Julie Byrce Fashion Emporium which closed in October after 35 years in business. (READ MORE HERE).

Another national title for McLeay…
Southland teenager James McLeay’s athletics CV continues to grow with victory in the New Zealand U20 Championship held at the International Track Meet in Christchurch on Saturday.
He knocked out the mile in 4min 18.45sec heading off George Wyllie 4:18.62 and Hamish Murray 4:19.98.
McLeay’s next major assignment is the New Zealand Track & Field Championships in Dunedin from March 6 to 9.
Funding target reached for dementia unit
A Hugo Charitable Trust donation of $50,000 has enabled Presbyterian Support Southland (PSS) to meet its funding target for an expansion project at the Iona dementia facility, Invercargill. (READ MORE HERE).
Increased visitor levy supports conservation investment
Southland conservation areas, including Stewart Island’s Rakiura and Fiordland National Parks, will get a funding boost as part of a $30 million Government investment across the country to improve local attractions, enhance facilities, and protect our unique natural environment, Invercargill MP Penny Simmonds says.
