Big congratulations to the Southland Development Men’s bowls team which for the second straight year won the annual Southern Zones Tournament at the weekend.
Bowls Southland is riding a bit of a high at the moment considering Gore’s Sheldon Bagrie-Howley also won the men’s singles title in Auckland recently.
Stories Elsewhere….
Buckle up Southlanders the Metservice has issued an ‘active heat alert’ for today, according to Stuff reporter Rachael Kelly’s article. Metservice meterorologist Angus Hines told Stuff Gore was forecast to reach a high of 29 degrees and 28 degrees in Invercargill today. The not-so-good news is there is also a risk of thunderstorms developing later in the day. Have a read of the full Stuff story here.

Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #5
Milford Sound is arguably New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction and it’s situated right here in Southland. People travel internationally to visit Milford Sound; we travel down the road in Northern Southland. With its magical combination of mountain peaks, ink-dark waters and superb dramatic forest-clad cliffs, it must be seen to be believed.
Many say Milford Sound is the eighth wonder of the world, and we believe that’s about right.
Out and About….
Gore A&P Show - Saturday, February 4
How about this for longevity. The Gore A&P Association will host its 140th show on Saturday with a large display of sheep, horses, ponies, goats, and dairy and beef cattle at the Gore Showgrounds.
But the animals aren’t the only stars with food stalls, market stalls, trade displays and side shows providing plenty of entertainment. A couple of notable guests are international children’s author and musician, Deano, aka, Mr Yipadee, and dirt jump/slopestyle mountain bike rider Levi Goodall. Goodall also featured at the Winton A&P Show on January 21.
