Tori Peeters topples own New Zealand javelin record
The Southlander, who is now based in Waikato, broke her own record at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix in Yokohama in Japan on Sunday night.
Tori Peeters has broken her own New Zealand women’s javelin record in an impressive outing in Japan.
The Southlander, who is now based in Waikato, broke the record at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix in Yokohama in Japan on Sunday night.
Peeters held the record at 62.40m, which she threw at the 2022 New Zealand Championships.
However, she increased that to 63.26m at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix event.
That 63.26m throw was also enough for a second-place finish in the impressive field of throwers.
It included beating Australian Kelsey-Lee Barber who won the 2022 World Championship title.
Barber threw 61.95m for a third-place finish in Japan.
Australia’s Mackenzie Little won the event with her throw of 64.10m.
Interestingly Peeters’ 63.26m throw in Japan on Sunday night would have placed her sixth at the Toyko Olympics.
Peeters controversially missed selection for the New Zealand team to compete at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.
The 29-year-old has remained focused with her sights on the 2024 Olympic Games.
Despite now being based in Waikato she has received plenty of backing from her home province through the likes of the SBS Bank and Mataura Licensing Trust.
