To put the 262K in perspective if the average rates bill for a Gore household is $3500 it would mean 75 homeowners paid rates for the year just to cover severance payouts.

You would have to wonder what councilors use as some sort of performance indicator before they think enough is enough.

Do they consider that 100 householders should be rated just to cover severance payouts each year.

Also remembering severance payments are normally the result of mismanagement.

The next years figures will make this year's pale into insignificance as the departing CEO is farewelled.

Lets face it 100 plus ratepayers need to put their hands up and show how far they are prepared to be bent over the council front desk and take one for the team. Public service at its best.

Worse is what GDC spent on legal expenses relating to one of those.

It really does appear that ratepayers funds have been squandered and accountability seriously lacking. One employment matter potentially costing ratepayers well in excess of 4-500k something the previous council and mayor ‘should’ have been aware of, and yet appears the matter was hushed until ‘clarity’ was obtained.. tui ad

For the council to have spent that much on legal fees defending themselves < PC speak for trying to make that person 'go away'> against ONE staff member, boy - they must have REALLY screwed up, or have had something extremely serious to hide and needed to seriously gag said staff member.

Seems to be characteristic of southern councils these days where people fail miserably to understand their roles around governance of public funds and instead be lead around by their noses by the CEOs.

You see the same at A&P shows where a person weighing 80kgs can lead a 2000kg bull around the arena with nothing more than a ring through its nose and a promise of some food if it behaves when it gets back to the stalls. Its all about the bluff.
