The Heart of the City column - in partnership with Invercargill Central - puts a focus on inner city Invercargill and reaffirms the area's status as the heart of the city.
Cr Stewart wants to create barriers to keep ‘vulnerable’ people out of council-owned buildings, rather than providing facilities to make those people less vulnerable. Sounds like a councillor who is more concerned about the welfare of the infrastructure instead of the welfare of Invercargill’s citizens.
We recently had a water crisis with our tank situation. Showering at Splash Palace proved to be the best option due to difficulty with parking in Wachner Place. I am sure the Wachners who were kind, altruistic people would want the shower and toilet facilities to continue at no cost to those who need to use them. Removing the facility for sake of convenience is disrespectful to their memory.
Shirley unfortunately the poor old ratepayer is fronting the cost but in some ways l agree with you,l think the council should have looked at somehow reducing the cost of running the toilets and showers by maybe limiting the hours the facility was open and also having it unmanned but putting in security cameras in the reception area to avoid any dangerous activity
Maybe if more people knew there was a shower there they would use it such as visitors to our town. Have lived here for over 40 years and didn't know it was there until about 4 years ago.

I wonder how they arrived at the figure of $250,000 for the cost of the current restroom
I am sure the $250,000 saving will come off the rates. hahahahahahaha
