Some “grumpy old men” would be preferable than Marcus, he didn’t seem to say or do anything when he was on our council. More interested in what was on his phone from what I watched.
Couldn't agree more that some people are on councils for far too long. Could be easily fixed with a limit of three terms.
It seems many have a difficult time once they are disconnected from the public teat and quickly move to the next one rather than the reality of what most people experience as can be seen by the ex-parliamentarians who quickly use the public profile to move on to local authority positions to keep some income coming in. Others seem to think they own their positions.
The simple fact is that almost anyone who is on council has a much greater chance of being re elected than any new candidates putting their hands up.
The biggest issue by far is the total lack of engagement in the democratic process because people feel their voices dont get heard. 32% of the people able to vote actually voting should send the signal that the system is broken.
Doesn't this sound a bit ironic, being grumpy about grumpy old men who were democratically voted in just as he was? Being 58, some might add him to the list he is complaining about. LOL. He probably does have a point though.
One big issue is that being a councillor doesn't pay well enough, especially these days, with higher living costs, to be your only job, if you are supporting a family. Marcus actually does well to still hold down another job, but with all the meetings, reading of documents, community engagement etc. it almost warrants being a fulltime job. I think there would be legendary community leaders out there, who would be ideal, but they just can't afford to ditch their jobs or cutback on hours to do it. So you do end up with some people who are retired, although I think it is slowly changing.
The other alternative would be to cutback on what councillors do and fewer, shorter meetings. That way it would be easier for people to do it as well as work fulltime. You would get people with real world experience, rather than career politicians.

He’s not wrong is he 😐
Go Marcus
Good on you for saying what u think
If u knew some more of what happens there your hair would turn green
You should have stood for counciler as well
I wouldn't question his wisdom, New-StalkZB hosts know everything about everything and anything.
