Good points Logan and it is an issue that has been around for yonks. There was a time in the 1980s when almost half the ‘Otago’ team was made up of Southland players: Richard Hoskin, Kevin Burns, John Wilson, John Lindsay, Robbie Hill and Peter Hills. Good luck in getting the OCA to play the game.

There was a period in the 70s/80s where Southland had some incredible players and contributed 6/7 players to the Otago 12 and still the declined to call it Southern Districts in line with Northern and Central Districts .Not quite sure how they can justify this and why they don’t have to change it ?

Well written and correctly so Logan. Very good points you make.......especially around the name "Northern" and how that represents all of the regions of that playing area. OCA........think about it.........really think about it!!!!

The masters games held in Dunedin and supported heavily by southland sports teams, sold or tried to, lots of apparel. All either yellow or blue.im sure a southlander would rather wear pink.a few months after one of the games I wrote and asked what they done with their unsold gear.and explained that 30 or 40 percent of participants would not wear otago colors.amazingly the next games the colors were mixed to suit all provinces.this was 20 years or so back now.
