Southland Stags to put stake in ground in Te Anau
The Southland Stags get a chance to make their first statement in 2023 when they line up in a “game of three halves” in Te Anau. The Stags will play the Southland Development team for 40 minutes followed by another 40 minutes against the North Otago Heartland team on Saturday. (READ MORE HERE).

Southern Premiership Football - Saturday 1pm - ILT Football Turf
Head along to the ILT Football Turf in Invercargill on Saturday and through some support behind Southland’s sole team, Queens Park, in the Southern Premiership competition.
They will take on Timaru club Northern Hearts. The Northern Hearts sit bottom of the competition standings just one point behind Queens Park who sit second-last in the 10-team competition.

Warriors v Canberra Raiders - tonight, 8pm - Sky Sport
I’m trying my best to find a Southland angle to this but bugger it, just get amongst the Warriors. A top four spot on the NRL ladder is at stake tonight. Get up the Warriors.
World Champs selection: Southland cyclists Corbin Strong and Tom Sexton will both line up on the road at the UCI World Championships in Glasgow next month. The pair have been included in the 29-strong Cycling New Zealand road squad - largely comprising World Tour riders and European-based professionals - for the World Championships. (READ MORE HERE).
Football: Sammy Murrell is a former New Zealand Junior Football Fern from Southland who now lives in the United States after playing and studying at Havard University. Murrell has joined The Tribune team as a columnist for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. (READ MORE HERE).
parkrun: The parkrun tattoo on Tom Williams’ upper arm is a giveaway. The Englishman is a true believer in just what Parkrun has become since its inception at Bushy Park in London close to 19 years ago. (READ MORE HERE).
National success: Southland’s remarkable run of national bowls success just keeps going. The Gore Bowling Club’s men’s triples team of Sheldon Bagrie-Howley, Thomas Cockerill, and Elliot Mason have been crowned the New Zealand Champions of Champions in Dunedin. (READ MORE HERE).
Player development: “It’s not a quick fix but we certainly need to see a flow on of local players emerge, and then compliment that with the top-end recruitment of the imports.” (READ MORE HERE).
