The player-turned-coach-turned-commentator….
Scott Eade is a handy rugby player. You don’t play over 50 games for the Stags and lead a team to a couple of Galbraith Shield titles if you’re not.
He’s now doing a stellar job as Rugby Southland academy manager developing the next generation of Southland rugby stars.
Some say Eade’s future as a coach is very bright.
But if that’s not enough, he’s got a future as a commentator as well if he ever wanted to make a career of that.
In the modern digital world, many games that would have otherwise been exclusive to those at the venue, are now live-streamed.
That was the case on Saturday in Te Anau when Rugby Southland and The Pits Media again teamed up to provide coverage of the Stags’ “game of three haves” preseason hitout.
Eade assumed the role of play-by-play commentator throughout the 120 minutes and it’s not a stretch to suggest he’s actually a natural at it.
Congratulations to Eade and The Pits Media, with the help of injured Stags Grayson Knapp and Mike McKee as comments men.

Queens Park AFC bank important win….
Queens Park AFC propelled itself up the ODT Southern Premiership standings with a 3-1 victory over Timaru-based club Nothern Hearts on Saturday.
Queens Park is the sole Southland club in the Southern Premiership and sat second last heading into Saturday’s game against bottom-placed Northern Hearts in Invercargill.
The Paddy Murphy-coached team got the job done setting the tone early when Cameron Johnson scored after just five minutes.
Ryo Okuyama made it 2-0 at the 20-minute mark which remained the score at halftime.
Hearts closed it to 2-1 through a Ryan Bagrie goal at the 72-minute point but Dylan Hawkes iced the Queens Park victory with a third goal to make it 3-1.
The victory pushed Queens Park to sixth in the competition standings.
Its next assignment will be against Dunedin City Royals in Invercargill on Saturday.
The Royals sit three competition points behind Queens Park.
It was a good weekend for the Queens Park club considering its Southland Express Premier League team also banked a 5-1 win over Jeff Walker Old Boys.
