Why Southland is a gem…. Reason #12
(We think it’s worth reminding ourselves why Southland is such a special place, so that’s what we’ll do regularly)
E Hayes & Sons Motorworks Collection: Every year hundreds of visitors from all around the world journey to E Hayes and Sons store for one reason; to see a remarkable vintage motorcycle with their own eyes. It's the story of "The World's Fastest Indian"; the legend of Burt Munro.
Today, Burt's original 1920 Indian Scout forms the centerpiece of a unique display of over one hundred classic, vintage and modern motorcycles, automobiles, engines, equipment and memorabilia that makes up the Motorworks Collection
While similar types of displays are housed in museums, you'll find the collection spread throughout an independently owned hardware store.

The record attendance to date is 218 and what a birthday present it would be to topple that tomorrow.
First-timers are asked to show up just outside at the Queens Park Cricket Pavilion at 7.50am for a briefing, before the full briefing at 7.55am. The runners, joggers, walkers then set off at 8am.
