Take a moment and ponder this. Invercargill will host a New Zealand-Australia netball test tonight [Thursday]. It is a glorious anomaly in modern-day sport. It’s something Southlanders ought to reflect on proudly. It is also a major win for regional New Zealand. (READ MORE HERE).
Architect calls for four Invercargill columns to be saved
An architect who 20-plus years ago played a role in the introduction of four columns in Dee St is urging the Invercargill City Council not to demolish them. Although all options put forward by the council, as part of a proposed Wachner Place-Esk St West redevelopment, include removing them. (READ MORE HERE).
Yellow Tour of Southland leader jersey ditched, orange in
Tour of Southland officials have ditched the traditional yellow tour leader’s jersey and replaced it with a new orange jersey for the 2023 race starting on October 29. Race director Glen Thomson said they had decided on the move to honour the support it had received from the event’s major sponsor SBS Bank. (READ MORE HERE).
Simon Patton’s Great Walk quest underway….
Invercargill man Simon Patton has set off this morning in his quest to complete five Great Walks in Southland in just five days.
It started this morning at the Rakiura Track on Stewart Island. He’s scheduled to fly back to Invercargill at 1.30pm today [Thursday] before heading straight to start the Humridge Track.
Patton has taken on the challenge as a personal adventure but is also raising money for Bowel Cancer New Zealand. You can donate by clicking here.

Breast Cancer Foundation NZ is delighted to have the backing of the Clutha, Southland, and Invercargill mayors, who are encouraging locals to donate to the charity’s Pink Ribbon Street Appeal next week. (READ MORE HERE).
